Vastu Shastra is a traditional system of Architecture in India. It highlights the principles of design, measurements, layout, spatial geometry and more, incorporating traditional Hindu beliefs (and Buddhist beliefs in some instances).
The designs for this house aimed to integrated nature with architecture, inculcate some ancient beliefs by using geometric patterns known as yantra, directional alignments and symmetry. In designing this house, it was imperative to keep the principles of Vastu in mind, whilst also building a modern house in India.
This house in India was designed by StudioJH, with advice from a Vastu consultant. It’s a four-bedroom duplex on the 1st and 2nd floors and a separate 2-bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor. We even added in a cinema, at the client’s request.
